For those just hearing about it, WÜNDERGARTEN is a dark fantasy isekai manga that follows
four girls — Alice, Dorothy, Belle, and Milena — as they’re pulled into a cursed world filled with
ancient horrors, twisted fairy tale magic, and lost memories.

It took me a while to come up with what I wanted to say about this release, which may be
apparent since Chapter 0 dropped five days ago ^_^;. Looking at the finished work, I went to my
team and said, “We really did this,” almost in disbelief. I think the strangest thing about being the
writer and creative director on any project is your team trying to satisfy your vision — honoring
your ideas. Not because you pay them, but because they respect your mind and creativity. It
gives you almost a feeling of imposter syndrome. I look at them like, “You are the talented one,”
haha. I’m just the captain, you know? But I guess that’s what a leader is.

I say all of this to say I’m very proud of my team. Very proud of this work that we created
together, and I’m hoping that the few hundred who have already read the chapter enjoyed it —
and that the few thousand to come, as time progresses, enjoy it as well.

DIO, my lead artist, asked me the other day, “Is this a women empowerment story?” It’s
interesting — I don’t really put my personal politics into my writing, but I did need to think for a
moment. I don’t believe that this series is solely about women empowerment, but rather the
power of humanity in the face of adversity. The ability to keep marching through trauma, pain,
and suffering. That your friends are worth fighting for — searching for. That strength isn’t unique
to women. The strength to overcome through the power of love is something we all can do —
and something I hope will resonate with readers regardless of identity.

With that being said, this story is going to be incredibly violent, emotional, and surreal. But it will
also be full of heart and passion from both myself and my team. If you enjoy manga like
Berserk, Made in Abyss, or even Magical Girl Apocalypse, this might be something you connect
with.
